I grew up in Las Vegas and currently live in Southern California. This means that I inevitably make the trip to Las Vegas a couple times a year to visit my family.
I love the desert – I think it’s a beautiful place. I think as a kid, you take the time to really explore your surroundings, and find the beauty in them. I used to collect rocks from my parent’s front yard. I thought the patterns that they had were so beautiful. That translated into the desert also.
So, during this last trip I made, we were in the middle of a storm, which ended up lasting the whole weekend. You often don’t get to see the desert in this state – wet, rainy, and in this particular case, snowy! It was definitely a site to behold. Since I know that seeing this is rare, I made it a point to snap a few photos so I could share this beauty with you!
These are the salt flats that like just south of Whiskey Pete’s. Normally people will take their wind surfer contraptions out there and haul ass over the vast flat-ness. When I turned the corner of Mountain Pass to see this lake in the middle of the desert, it took my breath away. I wanted to stop to take a picture, but it is a pretty steep grade, and the cars fly down it like bats out of hell, and that was a little too dangerous for me.
I hope you like the shots! Explore the beauty around you for the remainder of fall and into this beautiful winter season!

I too grew up in Las Vegas but now live in Texas. I miss the desert and I miss the bright lights. But I mostly miss being able to so whatever…and yes this includes grocery shopping…at any time of the night.
I’ll soon return for the holidays and I notice when it gets close I start to get that Vegas withdrawal of having access to so much in such a small space.

This is awesome Nat! I grew up in Mexico City – it’s huge. I have lots of family on the south of US and north of Mexico, and I’ve never seen a dessert like this! (come on I mean, snow really?) WOW! Thanks for sharing! Take care…

Thanks Adri! It is SO RARE to see this, I’m glad I decided to make the journey, rain or shine. Sometimes, you get snow, and this time was one of them!
