I remember being in Junior High when I first heard Cowboys From Hell. It was one of those albums that I loved instantly! My love of Pantera grew exponentially from there. Vulgar Display of Power came out when I was in High School, and that solidified my love of this thrashy band. I remember my boyfriend at the time had the poster from that album, and it was his pride and joy! In 1994, Far Beyond Driven came out, and I was on the Pantera train, not taking one look back. “This Love” from Vulgar Display of Power was the first real metal song that I ever learned on guitar. These three albums helped compose my musical fabric, and will always be a part of my heart.

On December 8, 2004 Dimebag Darrel left this world in a huge pink bearded wake. It happened at a Damageplan show in Columbus, Ohio, where a man, Nathan Gale, shot Darrell Abbott in the head three times; the third shot being fatal. A total of four were killed that night, and two injured before police were able to finally stop Gale by shooting him with a 12 guage shotgun in the face. Fans performed CPR on Darrell, but were unable to revive him. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene1.
I remember that day, hearing the news early that morning, most likely through MySpace. I had just gotten a new job that September at Imagine Systems, Inc., and remember enduring crap from some of my co-workers as we shared a smoke. Once they realized I was truly broken up about it, they backed off. That was the first time I got really shook up about a celebrity death. This was my Kurt Cobain. Back in 1994 – Pantera was touring, and I passed them up to see White Zombie and Danzig. I had to choose, and now that choice is one that haunts me. I will never see Pantera live ever, ever again.
