Motherhood. It’s a virtuous task that entails endless nurturing and sacrifice so that children may have a long, healthy, informed, and fruitful life. It is a task that we honor every year by showing mothers how much we love and appreciate them. Laid before you are 8 rockin’ ways you can do just that! These are things that I know my Mother would really, really appreciate. I’ve also done my homework, and have spoken to many friends and family members who are moms to get their input on the matter too! The consensus seems to move towards quality time, pampering, and relaxation rather than huge elaborate gifts. With this holiday, it’s the thought that counts, so without further ado, here are some ways you can honor the most special lady in your life!
-
A Clean House
Yes, you heard that right, and it was on the top of the list of all the moms I talked to! Moms often get the thankless job of picking up after their kids, and keeping the house looking good through the tornado we call life. Get a head-start on Mother’s Day by picking up the day before, grab your Scotch Brite scrubber pads, and get to cleaning so the house is spotless the day-of! I’m not a mom of humans, but am a mother of dragons (cats), but nothing says relaxation more than a clean house! It’s like a clean, blank slate for the day to be all awesome and no chore!

Flowers
I don’t care who you are, flowers are always a great surprise to anybody! Most women appreciate bouquets of flowers, and I know it lights up my Mom’s day whenever she receives that gorgeous, fragrant, colorful bunch of beauty. Why not surprise her with a kick-ass bouquet of flowers on the kitchen table as she wakes from her slumber? I find that it’s always way more economical to buy your flowers from a grocer like Fresh & Easy, use a vase you have on hand, or get creative with a pitcher or basket, and arrange your own! It’s often more beautiful (not to mention more plentiful), and your love and energy that you bestow upon it will have her loving the gesture even more! -
Coffee & Breakfast in Bed
Saying that my Mom loves coffee would be an absolute understatement. WHEN your mom wakes up (and please, please, let her sleep in as long as she wants to), make sure that there’s a piping hot pot of coffee ready to go. My Mom always buys the bulk coffee and loves Colombian, but let’s make this day special and buy a bag of some Organic Fresh & Easy Colombian Supremo. Get a cool flavor of creamer too, if she’s into that. This is a gift that will keep on giving long after Sunday!
She’ll really appreciate breakfast in bed too! You can get fancy like this Eggs Benedict here, but it doesn’t have to be that elaborate. I’ve been assured by mom’s that it’s the thought that counts! -
Spa Day
A day of pampering should ALWAYS be in order on Mother’s Day! Whether you go with her, or let her go by herself, make sure this happens. It’s amazing what a pretty manicure, pedicure, massage, facial, etc. will do for the mood! Your mother works hard. Pamper her!
-
Tattoo
In this day and age, tattoos have become much more commonplace, and many mom’s indulge in the art! If you’ve got that type of mom, have dad (or boyfriend/friend) pitch in on a tattoo for her! -
Makeup Makeover
It never hurts to get dolled up once in a while. It can be both a confidence AND mood-booster! If you have a friend who has a deft hand at the artistry that is the makeup world, ask her make your mom over! If you don’t, you can always go to your local make up shop where they do it for free. You can also pay to have it professionally done. Let her go on a makeup shopping spree afterward!
-
Hugs & Snuggles
Hugs are free, and mom’s love them. Do it all day. (Do it every day) Snuggle with your mom while she watches her favorite movie or TV show.

Cook Dinner & Dessert
After your Mother has been adorned with flowers, fueled up with coffee and breakfast in bed, enjoyed her spa day, been tattooed and made over, followed by hugs and snuggles in her clean house, continue the attention and pampering with a home-made meal and dessert to end the day. As one who cooks all the time, any time anyone else cooks dinner, I’m beyond grateful! It doesn’t have to be an elaborate affair either. Fresh & Easy has great organic greens from Wild Oats, and organic chicken. Why not make a fancy, fresh chicken salad paired with an ice cold craft beer from Coachella Valley Brewing Company, and finish it off with a Green & Black’s chocolate bar. Personally, that sounds amazing to me.
I looooove dark chocolate bars more than some elaborate dessert anyway. Don’t expect her to share either!
I’ve got a neighborhood Fresh & Easy pretty close to my house, and I’ve got to say that they always come through on holidays like Mother’s Day. They have all kinds of things to help you give your mother a day to remember and cherish. Cheers to you, Mom!!
With Love,
