Tomorrow is August 1st, y’all! Historically some cultures would celebrate the time around August 1st, as it was the halfway point between the Summer Solstice and the Autumnal Equinox. If you’re in the mood to do a little seasonal celebrating, head down to San Diego!
This past week, I did just that. My weekdays are pretty packed with work, so when it comes time for the weekend, I try to pack in as much fun as I can. I feel like I’m finally getting into a groove with posting regularly here, that it was time to stretch the legs and let loose.
Nurseries
Before we get into the breweries though, I had to post some snaps we took while on our way down to San Diego. There are so many nurseries and growers around the Temecula/Fallbrook areas, we had to stop and check one out. I love going through them slowly, looking at all the wonders that nature has to offer. This particular one we stopped at had so many awesome regional plants, and the groundskeeper, Francisco, was so knowledgeable and friendly. Aren’t these native specimens awesome?
Mike Hess Brewing
Last weekend was Mike Hess Brewing’s 5th anniversary, and it was an absolute hoot! The event sold out, so it was super packed, but when you’ve got that many great beers available for tasting, it’s hard to resist. They have two locations, and I’ve only been to the actual brewery, and the newest location on Grim avenue. It’s an amazing space, they pour great beers, and often have food trucks pull up in their breezeway! Here are the deets if you’re going to be in San Diego!

Jason Stockberger – Mike Hess Brewing’s award winning brewmaster.
The hubs taking a photo with Mike Hess himself!
This was my favorite concoction of the day – Intergalactic Brewing Company was on point! Here’s the deal with the casks – participating breweries got a cask of Mike Hess Vienna Cream Ale, and put their spin on it. They were all amazing, but this one stood out!
Awesome, friendly, and stylin’ staff!
Arizona Wilderness is one bad ass brewery. Great, great beer! If you have a chance, check them out too. I’ve got to get my booty to Arizona!
Modern Times
Welcome to the Flavordome!!! Modern Times also has some pretty solid brews, and this location is super close to Mike Hess. Perfect for brewery hopping if you ask me! The interior can’t be beat either.
