Get ready to be “Wowed,” because baby, I’ve got a treat for YOU! The first time I went to Kimberly Snyder’s shop Glow Bio, my husband got this “chocolate shake.” I had no idea what it was called, because I was all enamored at what I had ordered. Once I pulled myself out of whatever I was engrossed with, I saw what he had, and was instantly intrigued. “A …. chocolate shake? I thought this place only sold healthy stuff…,” I say to myself. One sip, and I was hooked! I knew it was healthy, but it was so hard to believe that it was made with no ice cream at all!
Here’s the scoop. The key to this decadent chocolate smoothie are the “groats.” When I first heard it, I didn’t know what the heck they were either, so don’t fret. I did a cleanse of Kimberly’s, and there was a bag of them in with the package. I had to google to see what they really were. I looked for them at my grocery store, but couldn’t find them either, so I set out to Amazon!
Amazon always seems to come through with obscure food finds. I found a case of four 16oz packages
for under $15 – and they were organic to boot! So for under $4 a bag, this was a total score. The serving size is a quarter cup, so you’ll have breakfast for daaaaaaays.
History lesson is over – and onto the shake! The shake is considered raw – all you have to do is soak the groats in almond milk, in the refrigerator, overnight! This recipe is made even better if you make your own almond milk. Make sure to get organic when you can – this goes for the chia seeds, and the raw cocoa powder. Use real maple syrup too – there’s nothing like it in the world if you haven’t had it, and also nature’s purest sweetener! It’s not harvested from any animals, and isn’t heavily processed like some sweeteners that are hot on the health-food market now. Agave syrup, I’m lookin’ at you!
Blend everything with the frozen bananas, and the result is a beautifully creamy, cold, super-star energy boost that will stave you well over into lunch-time if you have this dessert for breakfast! This raw, vegan shake keeps all the enzymes alive and kickin’, giving you the most nutritional bang for your buck! Give this shake a try. I know you’ll be as surprised as I was, and will love it!
- 1/4 Cup Groats
- 1 1/4 Cups Almond Milk
- 1 Tablespoon Chia Seeds
- 1 Tablespoon Raw Cocoa Powder
- 2 Teaspoons Real Maple Syrup
- 1 Frozen Large Banana
- Mix everything except the banana in your favorite pint glass, and let sit for 2 hours or overnight.
- Take the banana, and cut it up into bite-sized pieces. Place in a plastic baggie, and put in the freezer to also harden overnight.
- When ready to eat, add everything, including the frozen banana to a blender, and blend until smooth, about 30 seconds. Pour back into your glass and enjoy!
